Abstract

The use of extragalactic surveys to measure the large-scale structure of the universe, and so determine the cosmological parameters, has traditionally been the domain of optical wavelengths. The upcoming Square Kilometre Array (SKA) will change this, providing a new window on the Universe through large-scale, deep radio surveys. However, even the SKA pathfinder experiments will still improve on pre-existing technology by a significant margin, and still create valuable new datasets that could not previously be possible. In my talk I discuss the opportunity for the recently completed Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP), and two all-sky extragalactic surveys, EMU and WALLABY. I will show new results from the pilot survey data, and demonstrate how data from these surveys will be used to learn more about the initial conditions of the Universe, and the nature of dark energy and dark matter.
