Abstract

The reionization era in the early universe marks the last major phase transition of the intergalactic medium (IGM), when the first stars and galaxies ionized neutral hydrogen (HI). But exactly how and when did reionization occur? Lyman-alpha emission has played a pivotal role in constraining the HI fraction of the IGM during the epoch of reionization thanks to the resonant nature of Lyman-alpha scattering with HI. In this talk, I will review recent findings from Lyman-alpha studies of reionization, and discuss future directions for improving the use of Lyman-alpha as a probe of reionization.
