Abstract:

In this talk, I will discuss recent advances in mapping the metallicity of Galactic stars using large photometric survey databases, coupled with kinematic data from Gaia. This new chemical information offers an unprecedented opportunity to explore the phase-space distribution of stars within the Milky Way, including identifying and characterizing recently discovered Galactic components such as the Gaia Sausage/Enceladus (GSE) and the Splash. Our mapping efforts have led to the discovery of a narrow sequence of stars called the Galactic Starburst Sequence (GSS), which runs along several previously known stellar components and connects to the disk. The GSS provides a chronological order of active star formation triggered by the GSE merger in the young Milky Way. Building upon the GSS framework, this talk will demonstrate how various recent observational studies can be integrated in a coherent manner.
