The Astronomy Weekly Seminar will be held as follows:

Title: Galaxy Clusters as Large Dark Matter Colliders

Speaker: Prof. David Wittman (UC Davis)

Date & Time: October 24th (Fri.), 11:00 AM - 12:00 PM (KST)

Location: Science Hall B103

Abstract: Galaxy clusters are composed of galaxies (about 3% of the total mass), diffuse gas (about 15%), and dark matter (DM, the remainder). When two clusters collide, the three components show interestingly different behaviors that reveal their collisional or noncollisional nature. Astrophysical arguments like this are the only way to probe DM-DM interactions. But for any one merger we see only a snapshot of a ~1 Gyr process, so truly understanding the implications of a given snapshot requires extensive modeling. I will describe advances in finding and modeling merger clusters in an effort to build an ensemble capable of probing DM interactions.

The talk will be delivered in English.

We look forward to seeing you all.
